What is the "Eco-dynamic Enterprise" label?

Created in 1999 by the IBGE, the "Eco-dynamic company" label gives official recognition for the good environmental practices of Brussels companies, especially concerning waste disposal, energy consumption and the rational use of raw materials.
This label is meant to emphasise the connections between the environment and the economy, and to stimulate the voluntary commitment of companies to engage in a gradual process of improving their environmental performance for more sustainable development.
To correspond to this gradual approach concerning eco-management, the label is awarded at three progressive levels, from one to three stars.

The BRDA receives "two stars"

In December 2001, the IBGE awarded the label to 23 Brussels companies. Among them, the BRDA received "one star" for its registered office. This label was renewed in 2004, in recognition of the dynamism our company has given proof of.
In 2007, our good environmental practices and the results obtained allowed us to achieve "two stars".

The achievements of the BRDA that won it its second star

To actions that are already well-established (such as replacing all the lighting, installing presence detectors in certain rooms, providing free STIB and MTB passes, equipping a secured room for bicycles, choosing 100% recycled paper, etc.), the BRDA has added the implementation of a large number of new measures during the last three years, including:
- Monthly monitoring and analysis of consumption of water, gas and electricity;
- Regular statements of orders of paper, ink cartridges, maintenance products, monitoring of photocopier meters;
- High-quality management of the different installations with the intention of limiting consumption: inspections, weekly clocks, stoppages outside periods of occupation, preventive maintenance, etc;
- Investment in the insulation of the valves on the heating pipes;
- Purchase of new maintenance products, less numerous and more environmentally compatible (two of them are already 100% ecological);
- Investment in computer equipment making it possible to reduce the consumption of paper, via the functions of recto-verso printing/copies, scanning;
- Digitalisation of BRDA’s incoming documents;
- Numerous communications via Intranet, emails, USB keys;
- Salvaging paper in bloc-notes;
- Improvement of the procedure for sorting and removal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes at the Gosset site as well as at the sites managed by the BRDA. Currently practically 100% of waste is sorted;
- Performance of fifty reconnaissance studies of the condition of the soil and ten clean-up projects on the sites managed by the BRDA;
- Regular communication to the staff, organisation of an information breakfast, poster campaign relating to good environmental practices;
- Development of the Strategic Sustainable Development Cell, calling upon the specialised employees in different Departments of the BRDA, active in the areas of eco-construction, of energy savings and of mobility. The visible and measurable result of all these actions has been to reduce our consumption of gas, electricity, water, paper and maintenance products, and to set up pilot projects in eco-construction: the service pavilion at the Galilei industrial site and the "Midi-Suède" housing unit project, and to launch the development of a Mobility Zoning Plan at the Galilei and Mercator industrial sites.

Our environmental programme for the next three years

The new environmental programme focuses on the following priorities:
- The reduction of the consumption of paper;
- The improvement of the quality of small office materials, the improvement and the reduction of the number of maintenance products;
- The replacement of the fleet of vehicles, while aiming at the best possible ecological performances,
- The subject of mobility, both for our registered office and the staff who work there and for the site for which we are the managers,
- Increasing the awareness of the companies of our sites of the advantages of an "Eco-dynamic Company" label.
