The Brussels incubators

Since 2006, at the request of the Brussels Minister of the Economy, the BRDA has been providing the coordination of the "cupola" of the Brussels incubators.
An incubator is a property structure connected with a university or "haute école" the purpose of which is to accommodate, under financially favourable conditions, university spin-offs or other innovating start-ups arising from scientific research.

It is essential, however, that these small companies benefit, by means of the incubator, from in-depth assistance in all fields of company management, as far as technological research is concerned, in the search for capital, subsidies and financing, etc.

	EEBIC
	The Erasmus European & Innovation Centre in the Brussels-Capital Region is located in Anderlecht near the Erasmus Hospital and the Erasmus scientific park. Its objective is to promote the creation and the development of small companies with a high potential for growth. The activities are centred around two poles: the management of a business centre reserved for innovative companies, but also a range of advice in management adapted to new companies.

	Eurobiotec
	Eurobiotec Brussels S.A. was created at the end of 2005 with a view to supporting spin-offs and start-ups in the biotechnology sector. It expresses its objective specifically on the one hand by making available offices and laboratories equipped with totally integrated services in addition to customised managerial and technological assistance and, on the other hand, by means of the activity of validation of new biotechnological processes (fermentation > purification > formulation). Opening planned for 2008.

	ICAB
	In 2008, the new incubation centre “ICAB” (Incubatiecentrum Arsenaal Brussel), connected with the VUB, will open its doors on the Arsenal site in Etterbeek. ICAB’s mission is to encourage the growth and development of new technology companies. ICAB will accommodate and assist entrepreneurs who want to create a company in the information and communication sector.

	Incubateur de l’UCL
	The incubator of the UCL: A place for inter-university and interdisciplinary exchange, this incubator welcomes research and development companies, primarily working in the areas of human health and of oncology.

	Solvay
	Solvay is opening its largest research and development site to start-ups. In order to allow start-ups to concentrate on their core business, Solvay Research & Technology offers spaces for research, the necessary backing for their activity, particularly favourable conditions of accommodation for a period of two years, within the framework of an agreement where the start-up retains its full independence and the intellectual property rights on its research.

	Tweebeek II – Plug & Play
	While waiting for the new ICAB and Eurobiotec incubators to be put into service, 900m² distributed over three storeys will be reserved for the transitional accommodation of spin-offs. The spin-offs that establish themselves on this site will benefit from the technological and managerial assistance of the incubator, university or “haute école” that is supporting their project (UCL, VUB, ULB, EEBIC, ICAB or Eurobiotec).
